SEAN FREDENBURG
Saxophonist Sean Fredenburg currently serves as Instructor of Saxophone, Ear Training, and Chamber Music on the faculty of Portland State University.
Dedicated to promoting new music for the saxophone, Dr. Fredenburg has commissioned and premiered new solo and chamber saxophone works from many bright young composers. He regularly appears as a soloist locally, throughout the Pacific Northwest, and nationally at conferences and festivals. As a chamber musician, Fredenburg is a founding member of the Post-Haste Reed Duo (saxophone + bassoon) with Dr. Javier Rodriguez. Post-Haste has toured several U.S. colleges and universities, performing and presenting master classes in woodwind performance and chamber music. As an orchestral musician, he has been under the baton of Danail Rachev with the Eugene Symphony, Marin Alsop with the Oregon Bach Festival, and Carlos Kalmar with the Oregon Symphony.
In the summers, Sean is Artist Faculty at the Woodwinds at Wallowa Lake Camp held in Joseph, OR as well as the Saxophone and World Music Instructor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI. He has previously taught Saxophone and Chamber Music at the University of Oregon Concert Band Camp and the Young Musicians and Artists Summer Program.
Dr. Fredenburg holds a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University, a Master of Music from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon. His major teachers include Dr. Griffin Campbell, Dr. Steven Stusek, and Dr. Idit Shner.
