ARTEMISIA WINDS
ANGELIQUE POTEAT, CLARINET | JOSIAH BOOTHBY, HORN | RYAN M. HARE, BASSOON
Named after the "big sagebrush" (artemisia tridentata), Artemisia Winds is a professional chamber music collective, founded in 2019 and featuring a core trio of well-established Washington state musicians: Angelique Poteat, clarinet, Josiah Boothby, horn, and Ryan M. Hare, bassoon. All three are internationally successful performers and composers, and met as members of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. The core trio is expandable, with invited guests, to other traditional and non-traditional chamber ensembles.
Artemisia Winds takes an innovative approach to concert programming, intentionally blurring the lines dividing the past and present, notated and improvised music, and concertizing in traditional and non-traditional spaces. We are also mindful of the intersection between traditional performance and socially-conscious and engaged musical interaction.
While our programs revolve around the core three musicians, with much of our concert programs featuring the three core members individually as soloists, and in the trio, we also perform as core members of other repertory ensembles in expandable and creative contexts. Artemisia Winds has performed at the invitation of the Moscow Chamber Music Festival in Moscow, ID, and for the Wayward Music Series in Seattle, WA.
