In music, a Common Tone is used to help connect one distantly related chord or key to another. We believe that art is the bridge that can connect distantly related people and cultures together — that can bring us together in our shared aspirations, illuminate the human experience, and transcend our limitations.

A music publishing company for the 21st-century, Common Tone Press is an artist-run program dedicated to supporting composers, performers, and educators.

INCUBATION
Over the past few years, the arts funding world has been discouraging artists and arts professionals from setting up dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit corporations. Instead, they have been advising the use of organizations whose primary purpose is to provide conduits for the purpose of fundraising in exchange for direct fees and a percentage of the money that may be raised through the use of the conduit. This has become a very commonly used element for artists and professionals.
Common Tone Arts feels that the conduit approach is both short-sighted and far less productive for those whose purposes are better represented by the use of a specifically dedicated non-profit organization. Not only is this method is costly, but the equity that can be gained through the fundraising efforts and the activities that result from them is not retained by the actual funded program, but rather the overarching conduit.

PRACTICE MAGAZINE
Practice Magazine is a publication of the Common Tone Arts Institute for Creativity. This open-access and peer-reviewed online magazine and podcast devoted to the practical application of ideas and concepts for stimulating and nurturing creativity. We define creativity very broadly, and believe in its value across a wide range of pursuits, from the arts to design to sports to activism to problem-solving in any conceivable context. Our ultimate goal is to reposition artistic practice as less of a means to an end and more of a way of being in the world.

The Common Tone Media Network serves as an opportunity to introduce each other to powerful artist, hear about who they are and their work, and together will watch something they created. TORCH LIGHT CONCERT SERIES
The TORCH LIGHT series features the work of the TORCH Artist Collective, our friends in Seattle, and beyond. We serve as a platform to highlight powerful artists and create socially responsive work. Each show is performed in front of a live audience and simultaneously broadcast across the world. We have deliberately placed TORCH LIGHT events on (mostly) the last Monday of each month to attract as many creators, musicians, and art lovers as possible.

The Common Tone Arts Festival returns to the Palouse! Our festival aims to enrich the Moscow/Pullman community with live events and diverse musical styles. We strive to promote NW artists, from Moscow/Pullman as well as from the Seattle area, providing opportunity for the creation of new works while embedding within local businesses and providing experiences that are free and open to the public. TORCH ARTIST COLLECTIVE
TORCH is a multi-arts collective of artists dedicated to the creation and performance of new socially conscious work. Embedded within the collective is a contemporary chamber music ensemble whose original compositions play with our heady intellects and our groove-craving souls. Rooted in contemporary classical, jazz, world, and improvised music, TORCH bridges the gaps between genres, re-imagines works from master composers, and demonstrates an indie-band model of self-composition. TORCH is in residence and affiliated with Common Tone Arts.
